The Journey to When the Dust Settles
Every song has a story, and this EP is the culmination of a journey that began with one small step.
🎭 A Creative Spark
Feeling like I’d lost part of my identity outside of motherhood, I auditioned for a local theater production. Director John saw creative potential in me before I could see it in myself, giving me the confidence to pursue new creative opportunities.
🎤 My First Open Mic
After the play, I attended an open mic at A Place for Coffee. There I met fellow musicians Luke and Elaine, and what started as one performance quickly turned into new friendships and exciting musical opportunities.
🎸 Forming the band: Eclectic Connection
Together with local musicians, we formed the cover band Eclectic Connection. Weekly rehearsals, live performances, and the encouragement of my bandmates helped me grow as both a performer and songwriter.
🌟 Going Solo
After the band came to an end, I decided it was time to share my own music. My first solo performance at Three Bridge Brewing Company gave me the confidence to pursue music more seriously.
✍️ A Song A Day
For six months, I challenged myself to write a new song every day. The experience strengthened my songwriting and inspired me to begin recording my original music.
🎹 Bringing the Songs to Life
After meeting producer Dale, I realized these songs deserved more than just piano and vocals. I invited Luke, Elaine, and my brother Brice to join the project, and together we began recording my debut EP.
🎧 Recording the EP
Over several months, we recorded, refined, and shaped each song. Countless hours in the studio transformed simple ideas into a collection of songs I was proud to share.
🎛️ The Finishing Touches
The EP was mixed and mastered by Danny Bailey in Kentucky. Around the same time, photographer Tonya captured the images that became the album artwork and promotional photos, while Karolina Belland designed the CD artwork and helped introduce the project through social media.
💿 Summiting My Everest
When the Dust Settles was officially released. I chose June 2 because it’s a palindrome (6-2-26). Later, I learned it was also the anniversary of the announcement of the 1st successful summit of Mount Everest—a fitting coincidence, as for me creating this EP was summiting my Everest.
